The graduate degrees offered by the Department of Mechanical Engineering are as follows:
Masters of Applied Science (M.A.Sc.)
The candidate is required to complete a minimum of four half courses and prepare and defend a thesis based on original research. The normal duration of the program is two years. This program can be completed either full-time or part-time.
Doctorate of Philosophy (Ph.D.)
A master's degree with at least a B+ standing in engineering is required for admission to the Ph.D. program. Candidates are required to take four half courses, and must pass a comprehensive examination designed to test their breadth of knowledge and ability to integrate ideas which is normally scheduled in during the second year of their program. A thesis based on original research must be presented and defended. The duration of the doctoral program is 4 years. This program can be completed either full-time or part-time.
Masters of Engineering (M. Eng.)
The Department of Mechanical Engineering does not offer a masters of engineering degree.
